Is Don is Good, IS Donburi Is Amazing - Northbridge

IS Donburi is certainly the place to be on a Saturday night. Even though there's nearly always a queue for dinner there, customers don't seem to mind one bit about waiting to be seated. I think that's a testament of the quality of food and great flavours on offer at IS Donburi. I, for one, am always excited at the prospect of going to IS Donburi.

On this fine Saturday night, we only queued for about 15 minutes before being given a table. For the past few days I've been craving for chirashi, so I knew immediately what I was going to order. As there was a large crowd, we were expecting to wait for a  while for our food, which we didn't mind at all. But, what made us love IS Donburi even more was the fact they served us free miso soup! Such a bonus. 

Seafood Chirashi Don ($15.50)

When my chirashi don was served, I immediately dug in. The fish included in the seafood chirashi don was fresh salmon, king fish, tuna. On top of that there was also prawns, squid, the Japanese egg roll and tobiko. Everything on the dish was so fresh, you could smell the sea! My chirashi craving was satisfied. However, I found their vinegar rice lacked flavour which was a little disappointing. I would still highly recommend Buen 151 in St. James for a very satisfying chirashi don.

Dragon Roll ($16.50)

We also ordered the dragon roll to share. This roll was filled with a big block of cream cheese and cucumber, topped with grilled eel and bonito flakes. I absolutely loved this dish! The cream cheese was the perfect amount of saltiness and added a nice creamy texture to the sushi, while the cucumber added a freshness to the roll. The grilled eel was delicious, even though I wished they were bigger. Overall a very enjoyable sushi roll.

Teriyaki Chicken ($13.50)

Lastly, we also ordered a Japanese restaurant "must-have" dish, the teriyaki chicken. When the dish was served, from the aroma and the nice golden colour on the chicken we knew this was going to be a winner dish. Not much to be said about this dish it was near perfection! The chicken was well cooked and tender and the sauce was nice and thick and tasty!

This was not our first and won't be our last visit to IS Donburi! They always serve amazingly tasty and fresh dishes with a smile! Based on this visit I would rate IS Donburi 8.5/10.
