Fratelli Restaurant - Sorrento

So one day in late July the boss walked into the store and said, "we should have Christmas dinner." We all pointed out that he was either too early or too late for that. So we settled for Christmas in September dinner instead! I played no part in choosing the restaurant that we'd go to, but everyone agreed on Fratelli Restaurant in Sorrento. Having lived South of the river for most of my life in Perth, I had no idea this place existed or where it was exactly. This made me even more excited to try it!

The restaurant is located on West Coast Drive in Sorrento, just off the beach. As the place is upstairs, it gets the advantage of the beautiful beach scenery, although we missed the sunset when we arrived. Nonetheless, this place has been blessed with great views!

Fratelli Tasting Plate ($27.50)

Before arriving at the restaurant, of course, I had sussed out their menu online. Everything on the menu looked very hearty and filling! I was ready to go straight to mains, however, everyone else had other ideas. We ended up getting two of the Fratelli tasting plates to share. The plate was filled with chorizo, calamari, crumbed fish pieces, Danish feta, olives, sundried tomatoes, marinated eggplant, artichoke and relish to dip into. It was a generous portion for the price and everything tasted good. My favourite had to be the calamari and fish, they were both tasty and fried perfectly. Their marinated eggplant was also tasty and highly enjoyable. The one thing I didn't like on this dish was the artichoke. This was my first time eating artichoke, so I can't say whether it was how they cooked it or I just don't like artichokes.

Prawn Penne ($36.90)

I had pre-chosen the prawn penne for mains. The dish was filled with garlic prawns, bacon, sun dried tomatoes, fresh snow peas covered in a rose sauce. We had no idea what rose sauce was and just assumed it was rose wine sauce. Well whatever the sauce was, it was indulgently delectable. As the menu described it, the prawns were indeed succulent and the garlic flavour was apparent, which I really enjoyed. Although I don't normally like snow peas, in this dish, mixed with everything else it was very nice and added a bit of freshness to an otherwise very heavy dish. The bacon added a nice aroma and a little bit of crunch, even though I would say it was probably not necessary! Lastly, the sauce was very creamy and tasty!

Below are the dishes everyone else had ordered. I didn't get to try all of them, but everything looked great!

Lamb Shank ($33.50)

Fratelli Favourite - Chicken ($34.90)

Fish of the Day

By the end of our meal, I was sure that no-one would dare order desserts, but how wrong I was! Between the 10 of us we shared five desserts.

Tiramisu

First came the tiramisu. It didn't look pretty, but it was delicious. The cream was not too heavy and perfectly proportioned to the sponge fingers. The sponge fingers were perfectly soaked with the liqueur and coffee and both flavours were balanced.

Orange Cake

We had also ordered the orange cake. The cake was moist, light and fluffy. I loved how the orange flavour was very strong. They were also generous enough to have given us two large dollops of cream.

Cookies and Cream Cheesecake

Lastly, the dessert I ordered to share was the cookies and cream cheesecake. Cookies and cream is my favourite flavour of anything, gelato, ice cream, cheesecake, anything! So I was very excited when I saw this on the menu. I was even more excited when it came out. Unlike the usual cookies and cream, they did not use Oreo cookies, instead they used chunky chocolate chip cookies. The cookie pieces were not evenly distributed in the mascarpone mixture, instead there were chunks here and there. This was delicious! I loved the surprise cookie pieces we'd find as we were eating and the cookie crumb underneath was perfectly crumbly.

This place had it all, great views, good food and very reasonable prices. I would rate Fratelli Restaurant 7/10.
