I may be biased, but I totally believe Perth has some of the best beaches and sunsets in the world. I'm not much of a sunbathing and swimming beach-goer, being a fair skinned Asian, I've always been taught to avoid the sun like the plague. So when we do go to the beach it's to catch the sunset and have a nice stroll in the breezy wind.
My family and I visited Cottesloe beach not to long ago. I was so glad we arrived in just the nick of time to watch the sunset.
After watching the sunset and strolling along the beach, we decided to have fish and chips for dinner. There are a few different places along Cottesloe, and we chose Amberjacks simply because there were tables available for us outside the restaurant. When we walked inside to order, the place was absolutely packed and there was a long queue just to order. I thought this was a really positive sign of the quality of food they serve.
Greek salad ($9) |
Tropical pack for two ($27.50) |
Grilled fish - red emperor ($14.50) |
Seafood combo for one ($16.50) |
Due to the long queue, we did expect there would be a wait for the food to come out. We waited about 20 minutes until our number was called out, which was okay, we were just enjoying the fresh air. When the food was served we dug into it straight away. The calamari was nice and crispy and were my favourite of the night. The fish was also really crispy, but as usual with fish and chips, very oily. I was disappointed by the grilled fish as it was flavourless and quite oily! The Greek salad was also really refreshing and they were generous with the feta cheese and olives. I also really like how they are generous with the sauce with each dish served with two packets of sauces.
Overall, the restaurant is nicely set up, nice atmosphere and clean. The portions were also generous, but the flavours were average. It was just an average fish and chips place and I would rate it 6.5/10.
